Great post! One of the most informative, especially with the church. I find it so interesting that you picked Wallace as the most influential impact on Darwin. I believe that Malthus theory brought both Darwin and Wallace to the conclusion that "organisms with better access will be more successful in their reproductive efforts." For certain Darwin was influenced by Wallace because, as you point out, there was "striking coincidence" between their two papers and it was that striking coincidence that pushed Darwin to publish his book.
